Wearlayer – This is critical to the performance of a vinyl floor. The thickness of the wearlayer varies with each product line and is generally measured in mils. The thickness of a mil is about the same as a piece of paper. So a 10-mil wearlayer would be comparable in thickness to about 10 pieces of paper. Generally the more expensive vinyl floors have thicker wearlayers. Your expectations for how long your vinyl floor will look new and fresh are based on the wearlayer's performance.

Gloss – Generally speaking, the lower the gloss level the more forgiving the floor will be to the daily wear to foot traffic. It is recommended floors with medium to low gloss finishes for high activity rooms.

Overall Thickness – The thickness of the vinyl flooring determines many of its performance characteristics. Thicker vinyl floors provide more indentation resistance, more cushioning and comfort under the foot, more noise dampening, and more insulation.
